DescriptionThis two hour virtual session is an early introduction to the Literacy Learning for Leaders workshop series for our regional administrators and school leaders. Participants will learn about the four part workshop series, help shape the focus of the upcoming workshops, and be given access to the workshop materials in case they wish to use some of them during fall workshops. AudiencePrincipals, Curriculum / Teaching and Learning Directors and Learning Coaches, Superintendents Workshop SeriesThe full workshop series includes 14 content focused video modules grouped into 4 units: Unit 1: The Science of Reading (offered August 7); Unit 2: MTSS (offered Sept 25); Unit 3: LETRS (offered Oct 23), and Unit 4: Every Voice Counts (offered Nov 15). Each unit will include a facilitated conversation that will take a deeper dive into the content and consider ways to utilize the information within your school and district. As part of the 125 clock-hour requirement for license renewal, the Minnesota Legislature, by statute, requires ALL teachers to show evidence in specific areas to renew a license.These sessions are offered in one day and the times and areas are: 1. Cultural Competency* 8–9 a.m. 2. Early Warning Signs of Mental Illness 9–10 a.m. 3. Suicide Prevention 10–11 a.m. 4. English Language Learners 11 a.m.–12 p.m. 5. Reading Preparation 1–2 p.m. 6. PBIS/Accommodations 2–3 p.m.* If attending Cultural Competency, you will receive additional instructions on assignments that need to be completed in advance of attending the session (a self-assessment and multiple readings).Participants may register for all six areas for $350 or choose individual sessions for $60. Dive into reading with our reading academy series at South Central Service Cooperative Conference Center! Select one of the reading lists, enjoy reading through the books and submit an online review (2–3 sentences) for each book you read. Then convene on June 23, 2023 (The Art and Science of Reading Comprehension) for a day of networking, best practices, book discussions and literacy resources. To receive appropriate credit hours and certificate of completion, participants are required to fulfill the requirements on their selected reading list and provide their reaction to the book and how it could be used in the library or classroom setting or incorporated into an activity. Transportation Works! Get Your Future In Gear! is a 3-day summer camp for students in grades 9-12 to interactively learn about careers in transportation. Tours and hands-on activities will allow students to explore and engage in this exciting and rewarding field. The camp will run from 9-4 each day, and will start and end at South Central Service Cooperative (2075 Lookout Drive in North Mankato). Meals and snacks will be provided. This event is open to all MSC Conference attendees, their guests and vendors. This is a charity event and open to all levels of players. All proceeds will go to the Gathering of Champions, a K-12 Minnesota student recognition event held the first Friday in August at the Mall of America. In its 32nd year, GOC has recognized more than 50,000 students statewide for their academic excellence. This GOC is funded in full by donations and sponsors. All races are on trails with two miles of single track, although the south end of the course runs like a single track due to the horses. All races will start at 15501 Murphy Lake Blvd, Savage, MN.
