Join your peers for a day of professional development and learning at South Central Service Cooperative on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 from 9a-3p. The morning session will cover Understanding the Impact of Trauma and Youth presented by Molly Norris and Mary Beth Patterson, both are School Social Workers. • This session will provide information about experiences that may create trauma responses in children and adolescents, what behaviors and emotions could be presented in schools, an invitation to think differently about the kids we work with and to ask different questions. The audience will be provided different tools when working with students who have experienced trauma in their life. o Learning Objectives: ? Review adverse childhood experiences survey, review resiliency survey and factors that promote how youth respond to different situations ? Become familiar with identifying trauma-related behaviors ? Discuss strategies that promote strong relationships with youth who have experienced trauma The afternoon session will cover the following topics: • Education as a disruptor: seeing students experience with poverty, mobility, and employment instability • Wealth building • Ending systems alignment and starting with rebuilding systems to advance opportunities for POC, AI, and other marginalized populations. The afternoon session will be led by Sareen Dunleavy Keenan. Sareen is a Senior Project Manager with the Greater Twin Cities United Way. Sareen comes into the work at United Way with experience in all forms of education, and a particular focus on access and equity. Sareen has spent 20 years working and learning from individuals with disabilities as they determine what supports are needed in their next steps. An international educator, Sareen taught English and worked with communities on projects that they determined would increase their standard of living. These sessions are offered in one day and the times and areas are: 1)Technology 8-9 a.m. 2)Scientifically Based Reading 9-10 a.m. 3)Accommodations and Modifications 10-11 a.m. 4)Early Warning Signs of Mental Illness 11 a.m.-12 p.m. 5)Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports 1-2 p.m. 6)Reflection and ELL Statement 2-3 p.m. Participants may register for all six areas for $350 choose individual sessions for $60. Each session will have a set of materials for further study. Lunch is on your own.
