Description:
Phenomenon-based instruction and 3-D teaching. These are just two of the components in the upcoming new MN Science Standards that have many of us concerned about teaching science in our classrooms. In this workshop, we will work to answer two main questions: What am I supposed to teach and how am I supposed to teach? We will clarify the changes to the new standards and their impact in our classrooms, identify content expectations by grade band, and review resources for classroom support. Lunch is not provided. Time will be give to leave for lunch break or you can plan to bring your own lunch.

Description:
South Central Service Cooperative is proud to host this opportunity for area students in grades 6–8 to demonstrate their skills in mathematics. Through a partnership with Mankato Area Community Education and Recreation and Math Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools (MOEMS®), SCSC will offer the Math Mania Tournament. Teams of five students will participate in individual, team and playoff rounds of competition surrounding mathematical thinking and problem solving. Coaches are provided sample problems in advance of the competition and solutions for reviewing with teams afterward. Team and individual awards will be presented at a ceremony following the competition. Schools or other youth groups are invited to form teams, or students can register individually and will be placed on teams for the competition. We look forward to seeing all our “math maniacs!" As part of the 125 clock-hour requirement for license renewal, the Minnesota Legislature, by statute, requires ALL teachers to show evidence in specific areas to renew a license.These sessions are offered in one day and the times and areas are: 1. Cultural Competency* 8–9 a.m. 2. Early Warning Signs of Mental Illness 9–10 a.m. 3. Suicide Prevention 10–11 a.m. 4. English Language Learners 11 a.m.–12 p.m. 5. Reading Preparation 1–2 p.m. 6. PBIS/Accommodations 2–3 p.m.* If attending Cultural Competency, you will receive additional instructions on assignments that need to be completed in advance of attending the session (a self-assessment and multiple readings).Participants may register for all six areas for $350 or choose individual sessions for $60. Each session will have a set of materials for further study. Lunch is on your own.

Dive into reading with our reading academy series at South Central Service Cooperative Conference Center! Select one of the reading lists, enjoy reading through the books and submit an online review (2–3 sentences) for each book you read. Then convene on June 13, 2022 (Reading and Motivation) for a day of networking, best practices, book discussions and literacy resources. To receive appropriate credit hours and certificate of completion, participants are required to fulfill the requirements on their selected reading list and provide their reaction to the book and how it could be used in the library or classroom setting or incorporated into an activity.
