City of Kenyon Welcomes New City Administrator Scott Lehner

The City of Kenyon is excited to announce the appointment of Scott Lehner as it’s new City Administrator, concluding a rigorous selection process overseen by Mike Humpal, Manager of Local Government Solutions at the South Central Service Cooperative. Chosen from a pool of nine qualified applicants, Scott was recognized for his extensive experience, strong leadership skills, and exceptional alignment with the values and goals of Kenyon. After a series of interviews with three final candidates, the city council and staff unanimously selected Scott as the top candidate. He will officially begin his role in December 2024.

Scott previously served as the first City Administrator for the City of Nowthen, where he worked for over two years. His experience there has allowed him to build meaningful connections with both residents and business owners and to develop high-performing teams to support Nowthen's goals. Scott’s strong relationships and leadership qualities were noted by the five-member council, with whom he collaborated closely.

In addition to his municipal experience, Scott brings 30 years of private-sector expertise from his career with a Minnesota-based gas utility company. There, he managed budgets exceeding $10 million and led a workforce of 165 employees across the state. His responsibilities included extensive coordination with local businesses, city and county officials, contractors, and residents, especially during critical events involving service disruptions and property damage. Throughout his career, Scott has successfully navigated complex vendor and labor negotiations, partnering effectively with municipalities to meet shared goals.

Scott’s emergency response skills, gained through his service as a Sergeant in the Elk River Police Department Reserve Unit, have equipped him to manage challenging situations with a steady hand. His collaborative approach and deep commitment to building strong, positive relationships with community leaders, city officials, and residents are expected to greatly benefit Kenyon.

The City Council looks forward to the experience, dedication, and collaborative spirit Scott will bring to Kenyon, guiding the city through future growth and community development.
