NutriStudents K–12 expands free COVID–19 emergency menus for schools and child nutrition programs

NutriStudents K–12® has already had hundreds of school districts nationwide tap into its free COVID–19 Emergency MenusCOVID-19 graphic to meet kids’ nutritional needs while schools are closed. The web–based foodservice support company for child nutrition programs announced today the expansion of its emergency menus to include:

  • An additional week of cold meals, for a total of four weeks (five days each) of menu options, for programs offering meals under the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) guidelines.
  • Two weeks of menus conforming to the National School Lunch Program guidelines for schools offering meals under the Seamless Summer Option (SSO).

All the menus comply with USDA nutritional and meal–pattern guidelines for the respective program and include accompanying compliance reports. The menus can be accessed from:

“The response to our initial COVID–19 Emergency Menus has been incredible,” said Eldon Brustuen, co–founder and president of NutriStudents K–12. “We’re thrilled to be able to help front–line heroes nationwide continue to provide kids regular, well–balanced meals and keep them connected to pieces of their pre–pandemic life – their schools, consistent access to food and friendly faces.”

New menus available for Seamless Summer Option
For the Seamless Summer Option (SSO), NutriStudents K–12 is offering menus for K–5, 6–8, K–8, 9–12 age groups for four–day, five–day and seven–day programs. Each menu is conducive to grab–and–go or meal deliveries and includes daily recipes and food production reports as well as weekly calendar reports, contributions reports and HHKFA checklists. These menus conform to the weekly nutritional requirements, portion sizes and meal patterns, including vegetable subgroups, required under USDA nutritional guidelines for the National School Lunch Program.

Summer Food Service Program menu expanded to four weeks
NutriStudents K–12 has partnered with America's dairy farm families to expand the Summer Food Service Program menu to four weeks, two weeks of hot and two weeks of cold meals. Because the Summer Food Service Program nutritional guidelines, which apply during this time of emergency, are based on individual days versus full weeks, directors can pick and choose any of the 20 meals they prefer, in any order. In addition to complete recipes and nutritional details, each menu day includes a food production report for compliance documentation.
