SCSC 2019 Science & Nature Conference a Success

Strong winds were no challenge for the 802 students and 145 chaperones that attended the SCSC Science & Nature Conference on Oct. 22. While college students at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter were on fall break, students in grades 3–6 from 35 area schools used their classrooms to explore science and nature topics ranging from A Slimy Good Time to Wild Survivor.
“Dr. Fun” (Tyronne Carter) from America’s Fun Science informed and entertain the large group through visual science demonstrations such as chemical reactions, sublimation reactions and levitation. Students also selected breakout sessions to attend throughout the day. These hour-long sessions are designed to provide small group interactions on a specific topic in science or nature. This year’s diverse topics allowed students a wide selection of choices.

Many thanks go to the presenters and volunteers that gave of their time and talents to make this day a success! We also thank the Mankato Area Community Fund and Prairie Ecology Bus Center for providing grants to help fund the event.
