Young Writers & Artists Conference

2019 YWAC Keynote presentation to a large crowdThe 2019 SCSC Young Writers & Artists Conference held March 12–13 at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato brought students, authors and artists together for a day of learning. “Spring” weather brought a few raindrops on Wednesday but students happily avoided puddles as they travelled between buildings on campus.

With 43 small group sessions to choose from, students had the opportunity to explore many topics in writing and fine arts.

“There is something for everyone,” said program coordinator Mary Hillmann. “Students get a chance to try something new or visit with experts in a field they are interested in.”

Musician Ken Lonnquist was the opening keynote speaker. He shared his songs, approach to writing and talked about how music reinforces the mood of the written word. He also taught small groups about how to write a fun, imaginative song.

A book fair featuring presenter works was available each day. Authors were on hand during lunch and between sessions to autograph items.
