The Stock Market Game is a unique educational tool that helps students build skills in a wide range of disciplines including business, math, social studies, language arts, life skills, and economics. Students' skills develop as they use this program to meet the challenge of learning more about the stock market and world of finance. The format is highly motivational and has expanded to serve more than 15,000 Minnesota students each year. Over 9 million students have used the program nationally since 1977.
Students work in teams and are given a virtual $100,000 to invest in stocks and mutual funds. During this fourteen-week simulation, teams receive a portfolio showing their transactions, brokerage fees, interest, and rank based on equity in their portfolios.
Students in grades 412 can play the game. Competitions are divided into three divisions: Elementary (46), Middle/Jr. (79), and High School (1012). The cost is only $20 per team. This fee includes costs of operating the game and technical help.
