Creativity & Inspiration Line the Halls of Madison East Mall
Seventeen Projects Qualify for State Convention

 On Saturday, April 28, 2007, 59 inventors representing 42 creative and innovative child inventions lined the halls of the Mankato Madison East Mall.  Students from Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial, Sibley East, Park Elementary–Le Sueur, and Faribault Public Schools participated in the Regional Minnesota Student Inventors Congress sponsored by the South Central Service Cooperative. 

Student invention requires children to consider a particular problem they or someone they know is having and then develop a product to remedy the issue.  Most participating schools begin teaching the invention concept in January.  Communities have local fairs in their District/school to determine the best projects.  Those top inventors are invited to exhibit annually at the Mankato Regional Student Inventors Congress held late in April.  At the regional event, panel of judges determine the top projects and invite young inventors to exhibit at the annual Minnesota Inventors Congress in Redwood Falls.  This state event is a non-competitive gathering of child and adult inventors at various stages in the invention process, varying from beginners to those pursuing a patent to market a product.  The 2007 Inventors Congress will be held on June 8, 9, & 10 in Redwood Falls.

This year’s judging panel recommended seventeen projects worthy of the state convention (please click on the links below to view photos of some of the winners):

Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial:  Hillary Paige Shallock/Abigail Brynne Harris – Light Bright Scrunchies;  Kelsey Leigh Welsch/Melissa Ann Winch – RCL – Remote Control Locator; Victoria Tanley – Inflatable Pillow;  Christina Olson – Saddle Bag Tote; Tracey Peterson/Kiana Rose Ruch – Easy Pull Elastic Socks; Lucas & Lauren Hesser – Easy Sharpener. 

Park Elementary in Le Sueur:  Madison Hartmann/Madeline Kleschult – Pod Palz; Austin Braun – Remote Control Rabbit Feeder; Kelly Braun – Hasen Tasche. 

Faribault Schools:  Kayla Marie Pfeffer – I’m Lost Collar.   

Sibley East Schools: Tyler Kratzke – Grill Hose;  Tyler Bates – The Detangler;  Okari Dominguez/Christy Woehler – Headband Covers; Dylan Lieske/Brady Sheldon Steffer – Calf Bottle Warmer;  Katherine Ann Templin – Baby Go Bye Bye Bags; Ethan Effertz/Jordan Herd – Sifha House. 

Minnesota Student Inventors also let “Kids” be the judge!  Student inventors voted for the “Kid’s Choice Award” – their favorite invention at the regional competition!  This year Skyler Sak and Paige Ellerbusch with the “Desk of the Future,” won the honors.  Skyler and Paige attend Roosevelt School in Faribault.
