Students Calculate Mathematical Success at Area Math Masters Event!

One-hundred and eighty 5th grade students from 22 schools competed May 4 at the regional Math Masters event held at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato. Students competed as teams and as individuals in the competition that featured a Fact Drill Exam, four individual rounds, and three rounds of mathematical concepts.  Participating districts/schools included:  Jordan, St. James, Blue Earth, Buffalo Lake Hector, Norwood Young America, Waseca, Sibley East, Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial, Montgomery-Lonsdale, Le Sueur-Henderson, Sleepy Eye, St. Clair, Olivia, St. Peter, and Mankato Area Schools: Bridges, Eagle Lake, Monroe, Hoover, and Kennedy.

All exams were written and the following students/schools were recognized for outstanding performance.

Fact Drill competition – Individual Awards:

1st – Derek Frentz – Monroe – Mankato Public Schools

2nd – Brandi Wulkan – Buffalo Lake Hector

3rd – Emily Smith – Monroe – Mankato Public Schools

4th – Hunter Hinze – Montgomery Lonsdale

5th – Mitchel Dooley – Montgomery Lonsdale

6th – Sam Nelson – Buffalo Lake Hector

7th – Jesse Weiss – St. Peter Elementary

8th – Phoenix Shepherd – Monroe Elementary – Mankato Public Schools

9th – Dylan Neils – Monroe Elementary – Mankato Public Schools

10th – Andy Haley – Central – Waseca

Individual events Awards:

1st – He Chen – Central – Waseca

2nd – Luke Milton – Monroe – Mankato Public Schools

3rd – Kennedy Maker – Hoover – Mankato Public Schools

4th – Jonas Widness – Bridges – Mankato Public Schools

5th – Emily Smith – Monroe – Mankato Public Schools

6th – Jon Braunwarth – Central – Norwood Young America

7th – Chase Roberts – Central – Waseca

8th – Jesse Weiss – St. Peter Elementary

9th – Robert Johnson – Montgomery Lonsdale

10th – Colt Baker – Bridges – Mankato Public Schools

In Team Competition, Mankato students performed exceptionally well, capturing the top 3 spots in the tournament: 

1st Place Team – Bridges Elementary

Colt Baker, Jonas Widness, Douglas Krahmer, Riona Ryan, and Jake Fee

2nd Place Team – Hoover Elementary – Team # 1

Tyler Stoffel, Kennedy Maker, Rachel Bode, Shelby Lloyd, and Abbie Flom

 3rd Place Team – Monroe Elementary – Team # 2

Derek Frentz, Tyler Hatlestad, Adian Hoffart, Luke Milton, and Issac Mehlaff

Monroe Team # 1 also placed in the top 10 teams of the tournament finishing in 7th place.  Team members include Allie Knickrehm, Austin Koble , Dylan Neils, Phoenix Shepherd, and Emily Smith
