Midwest Wireless Awards Grant to SCSC
"Community Caring" Grants enhance local community

South Central Service Cooperative (SCSC) would like to thank Midwest Wireless for their generous donation of $5,000 to academic outreach programs for the 2005–2006 school year. Through the support of Midwest Wireless, SCSC has been able to enhance its ability to provide educational enrichment activities to thousands of students in south central Minnesota.

Midwest Wireless and SCSC have joined together to form an educational partnership aimed at providing students and schools with increased opportunities for students to participate in various educational enrichment and competitive events. As a result of this partnership, SCSC has named their Knowledge Bowl program the “Midwest Wireless Knowledge Bowl of South Central Minnesota.”

The Community Caring Program of Midwest Wireless provides resources to organizations and endeavors of integrity, which effectively improves the quality of life of the people they serve. Since the primary focus of the program is “quality of life,” programs and projects supported include: primary, secondary, and post-secondary education; scholarships at all post-secondary levels; and community and personal leadership development.
Knowledge Bowl is an interdisciplinary event where teams of students compete in written and oral rounds of competition requiring quick recall, problem solving skills, critical thinking skills and teamwork. Questions are taken from the standard curriculum for the grades competing. Teams participate in invitational, sub-regional, regional and state events. This competition provides a format for student growth centered on academics.
Knowledge Bowl was introduced in Minnesota in 1979 with only eight school districts in west central Minnesota competing. It has grown to include over 550 teams from more than 250 school districts throughout Minnesota. Midwest Wireless Knowledge Bowl of South Central Minnesota alone involves 81 teams from 31 schools districts for the High School competitions and 60 teams from 27 school districts for the Junior High competitions.

Midwest Wireless Grants are awarded on a quarterly basis and are considered only through the application process. Applications can be obtained at midwestwireless.com or by calling 507-327-CARE.
