Spring 2006 SCSC Regional Chess Tournament

South Central Service Cooperative is pleased to announce the Spring 2006 SCSC Regional Chess Tournament. This one-day event, open to students, grades K–12, will be held on March 18, 2006 at River Bend Academy Charter School, Mankato, MN. Register soon—registrations must be completed and mailed to SCSC with payment of $20 by March 13, 2006.

Competitors from the south central region and southern Minnesota are invited to compete in the Spring 2006 tournament. USCF rated and non-rated Scholastic sections are available for play. Tournament prizes include trophies for first, and medals for second and third place for each competition level. First place in each category also receives a one-year membership to the United States Chess Federation.

The SCSC Regional Chess Tournament will start with check-in at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2006, followed by the first round of play at 9:00 a.m. The final round of play will finish at approximately 2:00 p.m., followed by an awards ceremony.

More than 75 students, parents and chess enthusiasts from central Minnesota gathered last fall for the first SCSC Regional Chess Tournament. Students from eight school districts and twelve area communities including Eagle Lake, Fairfax, Gaylord, Good Thunder, Henderson, Mapleton, Owatonna, St. James, St. Peter, Waseca, Winthrop, and Mankato competed at the tournament. Students enjoyed a day of practice and competition—it was a day to celebrate students and the game of chess.
