SCSC Extends Appreciation to Retiring Board Members for Contributions and Dedication

South Central Service Cooperative would like to recognize and thank two retiring members of the SCSC Board of Directors, Joanne McCabe and Michael Mooney, for their years of hard work, expertise and dedication.

Joanne McCabe has had an extraordinary impact during her twelve years (1994–2006) of service on the South Central Service Cooperative Board. Not only has she been an integral member of the SCSC Board of Directors, but has also been a member of many committees and community programs. Joanne was elected to the Madelia School Board in 1992, and was elected to MSBA’s Board of Directors in 2000, where she served as President-Elect, President and Past President. Her term expired in January 2006. Joanne also serves on the MSBA Insurance Trust Board of Trustees and has been a delegate to MSBA’s Delegate Assembly.

During her term on the MSBA’s Board of Directors, she spent countless hours studying the implications of mandatory statewide health insurance for school districts and advocating MSBA’s position. She was part of the leadership team during MSBA’s search for a new executive director.

Michael Mooney has done an outstanding job while serving on the SCSC Board of Directors from 1998–2006. Mr. Mooney served as Clerk the past four years on the SCSC board, and also served on the MRSA board since its inception. The most memorable highlight for Michael while serving on the board was, “SCSC was able to provide affordable health insurance to so many schools in our area. Skyrocketing cost for health insurance would have financially ruined some schools had it not been for the SCSC brokering health insurance for all the schools.”

In addition to his knowledge and services provided to the SCSC board, Michael served ISD #108-Norwood, as a Board Director from 1992–2003. During that time he served on many committees, as well as being Treasurer of the Board. Mooney enjoyed being on negotiating committees and demonstrated the ability to bring sides together for reasonable settlements, but to Michael, “the greatest part of being a school board member is seeing the seniors graduate.”

Included in his many contributions is Mike’s long-time service as district representative to the Minnesota State High School League, and as the MSBA Assembly and Legislative Liaison. Mooney was involved in the 1995 Secondary School addition to Central Public Schools, served as a wrestling official for 17 years, and also spent 20 years as volunteer fireman for Young America Fire Department. Always an advocate for students in both academic and athletic advancement, Michael enjoys serving as judge for the elementary Science Fair and is a strong supporter of the Central Booster Club.

Joanne and Michael have been instrumental with their help and guidance on the board. Our sincere gratitude is extended to Joanne McCabe and Michael Mooney for the job they have done as members of the board.
