Dr. John Wessels of Ten Sigma will present a Life & Employability Skills and RubricMakerTM workshop on March 14, 2005 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at South Central Technical College, Lab C169, on how to use life and the employability skills activity download and the secondary rubrics in Ten Sigma's RubricMaker software. (Ten Sigma is a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing tools and training for K12 educators.)
"This is a truly a hands-on workshop," said Dr. Wessels. "Teachers spend the day searching for, editing, and designing rubrics. They also spend time exploring the life and employability skills activities on the Internet."
Teachers will learn to explore activities in the download and share ideas for integrating the material into their current courses. Participants will also use the secondary rubrics in the RubricMaker to search, edit, design, and print rubrics and discuss ways for using rubrics in their classroom.
Life and Employability Skills Download
The life and employability skills download program provides units of instruction for 65 essential life and employability skills for workplace skills and attitudes, responsibility, interacting with others, basic academic skills, habits of wellness, planning for success, and computer and Internet. The update also includes a consistent format and activities for a new category called “habits of wellness”, which contains skills such as grooming and hygiene, nutrition, fitness, leisure, relationships, stress, health care, sexual choices, avoiding substance abuse, and maintaining a home.
Secondary Rubrics in the RubricMaker
The secondary rubrics in the RubricMaker program contains more than 1,100 rubrics that specifically define behavior, reading, writing, speaking, mathematics, and life and employability skills. All rubrics are searchable, editable, and printable, giving teachers a wealth of criteria at their fingertips.
