Junior and Senior High Knowledge Bowls
By Nancy Meixl

Congratulations — Junior High Knowledge Bowl Teams!
Fifty-four teams, composed of 324 students from grades seven through nine, competed in Junior High Knowledge Bowl this season. Twenty-one districts from south central Minnesota had teams registered for competition. Each team competed in four regular season meets and a sub-regional meet. The top 27 teams competed in the regional meet on January 4 at Holy Rosary School in North Mankato.

School districts that competed in the regional meet were Blue Earth Area (BEA), Central (Norwood Young America), Dakota Meadows, Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop (GFW), Granada-Huntly-East Chain (GHEC), Jordan, Loyola, Le Sueur-Henderson, Minnesota New Country School, Montgomery Lonsdale, Nicollet, Sibley East, Sleepy Eye, St. Clair, St. James, St. Mary’s, St. Peter, Truman, and United South Central (USC). Trophies and ribbons were presented to the top five teams: First Place — Jordan Plaid; Second Place — Le Sueur-Henderson Chartreuse; Third Place — St. Peter Blue; 4th Place — USC Red; and 5th Place — Central NYA Ebony.

A coaches meeting will be held in September 2008 to prepare for the fall 2008 competitions.

Senior High Knowledge Bowl Students Look Forward to Region & State Competitions
There are currently 90 teams competing in Senior High Knowledge Bowl in south central Minnesota — which means 450 students have the opportunity to participate in this knowledge-based competition. The last regular season meet will be held in New Ulm on March 7. At that point every team will have competed in five meets.

A sub-regional meet for all 90 teams is scheduled for March 11 at Minnesota State University, Mankato. The top 27 teams will advance from sub-regional competition to a regional meet on March 28 at Holy Rosary School in North Mankato. The top five teams from regional play will advance to state, where they compete against the top 48 teams in Minnesota. The State meet will be held at Craguns Resort in Brainerd on April 17 and 18.
