Wellness Program:

Let’s Get Healthy!

What can you or your organization do to promote wellness?  Are you interested in ways to improve your health and promote wellness?  Debbie Dettman, the wellness coordinator at Central Public Schools, located in the Young America area, is a wellness enthusiast!  Debbie has used her imagination to create programs full of fun to help motivate staff about wellness. Can you “Walk your Socks Off? or do the “Turkey Trot” for better health?  These are two of the incentive programs Debbie has created to get staff involved.

Debbie’s “Healthy Happenings – Walk Your Socks Off” program has a catchy name which helps to get people interested and on the move.  People start by setting a walking goal, walk on their own, and when they reach their goal; they receive a new pair of socks.  Debbie also runs a “Turkey Trot” program where participants set a nutritional goal, exercise at least three times a week for 30 minutes, and chart their own progress.  All participants who complete the four week program have a chance to win a turkey.

“Stress Reliever Sessions” at the end of the quarter, is another program Debbie initiated where staff could listen to half hour segments about weight lifting, running, walking pounds away and blood pressure checks to help release their stress.  Debbie is constantly searching for new ways to get the staff involved in healthy projects on a small wellness budget. Congratulations and thanks to Debbie— she’s a pro!
