Deaf and Hard of Hearing/Audiology
The SCSC Regional Low Incidence Project provides audiological services for children with suspected or diagnosed hearing loss. Staff Audiologists are: Karen Johnson, 507-389-5103 kjohnson@mnscsc.org and Dan Kallaus, 507-389-5107 dkallaus@mnscsc.org.

SCSC’s Audiology Department

  • Provides comprehensive and educationally relevant hearing tests to individuals, from birth to 21 years of age
  • Makes recommendations for and ensures proper fit and function of hearing aids and other listening devices
  • Collaborates with schools, parents, and community agencies in developing educational programming, equipment monitoring, and in-service training
  • Advocates for all infants, toddlers, and youth with hearing impairment for the development of programs that promptly identify, evaluate and provide appropriate intervention services

Audiologists provide hearing testing to children from birth to 21 years of age on site at the student’s school building or at the hearing booth located in the South Central Service Cooperative’s administrative offices. Comprehensive audiological evaluations conducted on site at the SCSC hearing booth can be arranged by contacting Loree Brown at 507-389-1425. It is strongly recommended that children four years of age or younger be assessed at this facility. Staff audiologists have close contact with regional teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing who are responsible for providing direct educational services to children with hearing impairment in south central Minnesota.
