Minnesota Valley Lutheran Places Fifth at State Knowledge Bowl Meet

Ninety teams from south central Minnesota competed in this year’s Senior High Knowledge Bowl program. During the contests, teams of five students, compete in written and oral rounds by answering questions related to all areas of learning typical of secondary educational programs. Questions test students’ recall, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Regular season meets were held in 15 locations across Region 9. Each team had the opportunity to compete in five meets. The end of the season culminated with all 90 teams competing in the sub-regional meet held at Minnesota State University, Mankato. At the end of the day, 27 teams remained to compete in the regional meet held on March 28 at Holy Rosary School in Mankato.

The top five teams from the regional meet advanced to the state meet which was held at Cragun’s Resort in Brainerd April 17–18. Three teams competed in “AA” and two competed in “A.” The state contest included 48 total teams (24 in each tier.) Region 9 teams’ results follow:

AA Tier: Minnesota Valley Lutheran #1—Fifth Place—116.5 points (team received individual medals for their placement); Minnesota Valley Lutheran #2—13th Place—100.5 points; Fairmont—24th Place—77 points.

A Tier: Mankato Loyola—12th Place—95 points; Le Sueur-Henderson—24th Place—74 points.
