KNOWLEDGE BOWL South Central Teams Place in Top 10 at State Knowledge Bowl Five teams from the South Central region competed at the State competition on April 17 and 18 at Cragun’s Resort in Brainerd. Forty-eight teams from a pool of 769 teams statewide divided into two categories of 24 teams “A” or small schools and “AA” large school. There was great representation from South Central Minnesotain the “A” Division. Minnesota Valley Lutheran (MVL) teams placed third and 10th, Le Sueur-Henderson placed eighth, and Sibley East placed 13th. In the “AA” Division (large school) New Ulm placed 22nd out of 24 teams. These five south central teams earned the opportunity to advance to state by competing against 84 other teams regionally March 23 at Rasmussen Business College. Trophies and medals were given to the top six teams in each division. (Teams of five students compete in one written and five oral rounds of competition in this interdisciplinary event requiring quick recall and team work. Questions are taken from standard curriculum for grades 912, including Minnesota history and geography.) Special congratulations to the MVL knowledge bowl teams and Ron Wels, their coach of ten years. MVL is a small private high school in New Ulm with fewer than 260 students. This year MVL had 22 students participate in the program and fielded four teams, two which placed first and second in the regional competition and continued on to earn honors at state!
