MINNESOTA STUDENT INVENTORS CONGRESS

“Desk of the Future” Wins Kid’s Choice Award

Congratulations to Skyler Sak and Paige Ellerbusch inventors of the “Desk of the Future.” These Roosevelt School students from Faribault were elected by their piers to receive the “Kid’s Choice Award” at the Regional Minnesota Student Inventors Congress held on April 28 at the Mankato Madison East Mall.

Nearly 60 students representing 42 creative and innovative student inventions lined the halls of the Mankato Madison East Mall for the Regional Minnesota Student Inventors Congress (MSIC) and their opportunity to demonstrate their inventions. This exciting event, sponsored by South Central Service Cooperative, showcased student inventors from Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial, Sibley East Schools, Park Elementary in Le Sueur, and Faribault Public Schools.

MSIC asks students to consider a particular problem they, or someone they know is having, and to develop a product to remedy the problem. Most participating schools begin teaching the invention concept in January, followed by local fairs where the best projects are determined, and students earn the opportunity to advance to the Regional Student Inventors Congress in Mankato. At the regional event, a panel of judges choose the top projects and those young inventors may exhibit at the annual Minnesota Inventors Congress in Redwood Falls. This event displays both student and adult inventions at various stages in the invention process - some are evolving and others are pursuing a patent to market a finished product.

In addition to the Kid’s Choice Award, the judging panel recommended 17 projects worthy of inclusion in the 2007 Minnesota Inventors Congress to be held June 8, 9 &10 in Redwood Falls. A complete list of inventors and projects can be found on our website: www.mnscsc.org.
