Greater Mankato Area HOSA Attends State Leadership Conference

“Helping with our Hands, Healing with our Hearts”

Greater Mankato Area HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) began in fall 2006 with 15 high school students throughout south central Minnesota. Since then, students have met two times per month in the evening to work on community service, learn more about healthcare, develop leadership skills and practice for competitive events.

In April, students were given the opportunity to participate in the HOSA State Leadership Conference. Seven students from the Greater Mankato chapter went to St. Cloud, MN to compete in a variety of events. Statewide, over 250 students competed at this two-day conference. Megan Sheldon placed 2nd in Extemporaneous Writing and earned Honorable Mention in a Human Growth & Development Knowledge Exam, Elizabeth Macrafic earned Honorable Mention in Medical Photography, and Deepika Argrawal earned Honorable Mention in Prepared Speaking. Megan will be attending the National Conference in Orlando, FL in June.

Any student with an interest in healthcare is encouraged to join HOSA. Students enrolled in regional courses such as Introduction to Health Occupations or Certified Nursing Assistant will have HOSA incorporated into their classrooms.
