FINE ARTS CONFERENCE

All That Jazz and So Much More!
Fine Arts Conference Brings Art Education to Area Students

On May 17, the 2007 SCSC Fine Arts Conference started off with a bang as the Mankato West Jazz Band, directed by Tedd Gullickson, got students swinging into a day filled with art appreciation. The band started the gymnasium rock’n with a number of Jazz tunes while Gullickson introduced students to the history of Jazz and its instruments.

Approximately 300 students from area junior high and elementary schools participated in a day of hands-on learning experiences in a variety of art areas, including: sculpture, guitar, martial arts, choreography and dance, talking drums, floral design and many other exciting topics. Bethany Lutheran College was host to this event and provided a safe and accessible environment for the busy students.

The day ended with a captivating performance from entertainer Gary Tyson who wowed the students with his comedy magic finale. Students participated in his mystifying feats and learned a trick or two about magic and style.
