SCSC Chess Tournament Kings, Queens and Knights, Oh My! The 2007 SCSC Spring Regional Chess Tournament was a great success with more than 40 students participating in the event held March 24 at RiverBend Academy Charter School in Mankato. Students from thirteen schools competed in the day’s events including: Dakota Meadows, Immanuel Lutheran, Sleepy Eye, Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial, Mountain Lake, Waconia, Waseca Sacred Heart, RiverBend Academy, Belle Plaine, St. Peter, Blue Earth, Washington Elementary, and North Iowa Elementary. Students K12 were divided by grade level and faced-off with other participants in their groupboth ranked and unranked competition was offered. Five students chose ranked play and finessed their way through strategic rounds competing for first, second, and third place. With ages spanning 12 years and a variety of skill levels, every match was played with energy and attentiveness. After the first four rounds, unranked students played against the clock during tie-breaking playoff games to determine tournament placement. The day concluded with an awards ceremony honoring first through fifth-place winners in each category. Event photos and a list of tournament winners can be found on our website: www.mnscsc.org.
