CARL PERKINS Greater Mankato Career Expo, A Community of Opportunities The 2nd Annual Greater Mankato Career Expo was held on May 2 at the Midwest Wireless Civic Center. Over 1,000 area sophomores had the opportunity to explore and attend this event to learn more about how the Greater Mankato area is a “Community of Opportunities.” This year’s Expo showcased over 100 different Interactive Career Exhibits representing careers in each of the 16 career clusters. There were over 250 community volunteers working on these plans. Students heard a message titled “The Roadmap to Success” and participated in a Career Game Show, where they were asked to compete in teams to answer career related trivia questions. In the arena, students were able to talk to professionals working in the career fields of the students highest interest areas. Over 200 Greater Mankato business partners provided hands- on learning opportunities for students to get involved and ask questions on what it takes to work in their field of work. The “Roadmap to Success” presentation enlightened students to changes in our global world. Three breakout session speakers delivered a similar message to their audiences pertaining to the changing workforce, future job markets, and upcoming trends leading our global world. New this year, was the Career Game Show, where students went head to head with each other competing to answer questions relating to career, college, and job interviewing skills. They came away with useful knowledge and information to help them further their career explorations. Participating schools included:
