CENTER FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

Six Outstanding Minnesota Educators Receive Awards for Excellence

The Center for Academic Excellence has announced the 2007 statewide WEM Outstanding Educator Award recipients. Honorees will receive a $10,000 award and a crystal apple from the WEM Foundation at a brunch in October held in recognition of their outstanding accomplishments and contributions to student learning.
Two honorees were named in each of three categories—the 2007 recipients are:

Teacher Achievement Awards

  • Kenneth Fiscus, Albert Lea High School
  • Stephen Schroeder-Davis, Elk River Area Public Schools

Academic Coach of the Year Awards

  • Peggy Pasche, Buffalo Senior High School
  • Laura Bidne, Jackson County Middle School

Ethics in Education Awards

  • Cheryl Bjerk, Fairview Elementary, Mora School District
  • Charlotte Landreau, Highland Park Senior High, St. Paul Public Schools.

Each state honoree was surprised by the Center for Academic Excellence with notification of their award at a local year-end recognition program held in their district. In addition to the six statewide honorees, 12 educators (four in each category) were named as regional honorees for 2007 and these teachers will be notified by CAE during the month of June.

Educators are nominated by students, parents, or colleagues and those who accepted the nomination provided additional information for consideration by a Center for Academic Excellence and a State Blue Ribbon Judging Panel, which convened at the Minnesota Department of Education to review and rank the nominees.
