AYP/STUDENT IMPROVEMENT

Q Comp—Quality Compensation for Minnesota Teachers

What is Q Comp?
Q Comp, was proposed by Governor Tim Pawlenty and enacted by the Legislature in July 2005. The program has five components:

1. Career ladders for teachers
2. Job-embedded professional development
3. Instructional observations and standards-based assessments
4. Measures to determine student growth
5. Alternative teacher compensation

Q Comp gives participating school districts the flexibility to meet local needs within a comprehensive model of improved teaching and learning. Teachers are paid based on performance, not just seniority and it includes a locally agreed-upon peer evaluation process for every teacher that is based on skills, responsibilities and student academic growth.

How do Schools Participate?
Participation in Q Comp is voluntary. Interested school districts can download application materials and instructions from the MDE website and Q Comp staff is available for consultation, support and to answer your questions: www.education.state.mn.us

How is it Succeeding?
In financial terms, Q Comp provides an additional $260.00 per pupil for implementation.
