Health and Safety:

Managing Asthma in Minnesota Schools

Why is asthma an issue for school personnel? Attend the "Asthma Training Seminar" in Mankato on October 5, 2004 to learn more about asthma and how you can help to create a healthy environment for students with asthma in your school. School nurses, health assistants, or anyone who provides asthma care to students can benefit from this information.

The seminar will be held at the Mankato Intergovernmental Center, 10 Civic Center Plaza, Mankato, from 8:30 am until 4:00 pm at a cost of $10. You can register for the seminar online at: www.mnscsc.org, click on Events.

Training topics will cover the asthma basics and medications, how to manage an acute episode, controlling asthma and preventing exacerbations, tools to help manage asthma, case scenarios, and communication techniques. In addition to discussion, free materials will be provided for training other school staff. If you have questions on this seminar, please contact Nancy Meixl at South Central Service Cooperative: Phone-507-382-6781, e-mail: nmeixl@mnscsc.org.
