Knowledge Bowl:

South Central Knowledge Bowl Winners Advance to State

Knowledge Bowl season is drawing to a close, while the excitement of competition is still alive for some senior high teams as they advance to state competition at Cragun’s Resort in Brainerd April 20–21, 2004.  Midwest Wireless sponsors knowledge bowl competition in south central Minnesota for junior high and senior teams throughout the school year.  Teams of students compete in one written and three or four oral rounds of competition in an interdisciplinary event that requires quick recall and team work. Questions are taken from the standard curriculum for their grade level.

 

During the 2003/2004 school year, 54 six-member Junior High Knowledge Bowl teams—324 students—competed in meets across south central Minnesota from September through January. The junior high regional meet was January 9, 2004 at Rasmussen Business College in Mankato.  The top five teams for this season were: 1st–Sibley East Black, 2nd–Fairmont Indigo, 3rd–Central Maroon, 4th–St. Peter Blue, 5th–St. James Red.  Scores from each junior high meet can be found at www.mnscsc.org by clicking on Knowledge Bowl.

The senior high season runs from January through April and this year 81 five-member Senior High Knowledge Bowl teams—405 students—competed for a chance at the state meet. Sub-regional competition was March 11, 2004 at Minnesota State University, Mankato where the top 27 teams continued on to compete at the regional meet March 19, 2004 at Rasmussen Business College in Mankato.   From the regional meet, five teams earn the chance to compete at the state event in Brainerd.  This year Owatonna Mink, Fairmont Mahogany, BEA Emerald, Le Sueur-Henderson Cobalt, and Owatonna Combustion will represent south central Minnesota at state competition.
