SCIENCE AND NATURE CONFERENCE

2006 Science & Nature Conference—A Huge Success!

On October 24, 2006 approximately 250 students from over 26 area schools attended the second annual Science & Nature Conference, hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. The event exceeded every expectation, and attendance more than doubled from the first year.

After an explosive opening session called “All Things Connected,” presented by the Minnesota Zoomobile, children and chaperones attended a series of three hands-on science/nature classes led by teaching faculty, graduate students, naturalists, DNR staff, St. Peter Police Department, Tri-County Recycling, and community business professionals. Youth in grades 1-8 were introduced to concepts that ranged from study of aquatics, microbiology, forensic science, recycling, physics, chemistry, and the study of animals.

Plans are underway for the third annual Science & Nature Conference in 2007. For more information on this program or other academic enrichment opportunities, please visit our website at www.mnscsc.org. You may view or download a copy of the 2006–2007 Student Academic Outreach Handbook.
