Knowledge Bowl Gears Up for a Great Year

By Nancy Marquart

The Junior High Knowledge Bowl (JHKB) Coaches’ meeting was held on Sept. 18 at the South Central Service Cooperative. Twenty-two coaches attended. As a result, we will have 54 JHKB teams this year from 21 different school districts. With six students per team, we will have more than 300 students participating in JHKB. Each team will compete in four regular season meets hosted by individual schools and the sub-regional meet at Minnesota State University, Mankato. The sub-regional meet will be held on Dec.17. The top 27 teams will also compete in the regional meet to be held at Holy Rosary School on Jan. 8, 2010. We are looking forward to a competitive and exciting season with all teams coming ready for action!

The Senior High Knowledge Bowl Coaches’ meeting will be held on Oct. 7 at the South Central Service Coop Conference Center. The senior high season will begin in early January with meets running through early March. We expect about 95 teams from 32 different school districts. The senior high teams are made up of five students in grades 9-12, which adds up to more than 450 students. Our sub-regional meet, with all teams represented, will be held at Minnesota State University, Mankato in mid-March. The regional meet with the top 27 teams will be held late in March and the state competition (our top five teams) will be held at Cragun’s Resort in Brainerd on April 15- 16, 2010. Our region is coming off of a big season last year with Mankato Loyola winning first place at state in the small school division. Congratulations again – Loyola!
