"WATER IS LIFE" ART CONTEST

2008 “Water is Life” Art Contest Kicks Off

“Water is Life” 2007–2008 art contest brochures are being printed and will be mailed to the schools the first week in November. Students will be asked to create art that expresses meaningful and artistic ways to respond to the theme, Water is Life, focusing on our most precious resource—water. Art projects may be submitted in three categories: flat surface (painting, drawing, or graphic design), photography, or three-dimensional (sculpture).

The contest has been expanded to include more regions in the state and will also reflect an international component this year — program details will follow. Student entry forms are due by March 1, 2008 with artwork delivery by March 31, 2008. Entries will be judged and winners announced at a regional reception April 16, 2008 at the Carnegie Art Center in Mankato. Four students will advance from each region to the state gala in May 2008 where the scholarship winners will be announced.

Congratulations to Luke Lieske from Le Sueur-Henderson High School who was one of three state scholarship recipients in 2007 and to our regional semi-finalists: Anna Fixsen, Ashley Haas, and Joe Stuewe, Le Sueur-Henderson HS; Alison Wilson, Maple River HS; and Andrew Forsyth, Mankato West HS.
