The European Renaissance—Theme for the
2005–06 Minnesota Academic Decathlon Competition

Each year students challenge themselves locally and at the state level to earn the opportunity to compete nationally in the United States Academic Decathlon scholastic competition. This program is designed to stimulate intellectual growth and encourage greater respect for knowledge. The format includes students with A, B and C grade-point averages competing in ten curricular areas.

The European Renaissance was chosen as the theme for this year’s competition. The Super Quiz portion of the competition focuses on the Renaissance from a social sciences perspective. Students will compose an essay based on a prompt whose central theme incorporates information relating to the current curriculum. Students will also perform a prepared speech and impromptu speech and participate in an interview before a panel of community volunteer judges.
