Letter from the Executive Director

Greetings to you from South Central Service Cooperative—this year marks the 30th anniversary of program and service delivery to the districts, cities, and counties in our cooperative area. “Quality through Cooperation” continues to be our focus as we strive to bring quality educational programs and cost effective products and services to our members.

We have had a busy summer preparing for the many new events and programs that will be presented to you over the next calendar year. Please take a look at the new SCSC Student Academic Outreach Handbook that was mailed to your district and is posted to our website: www.mnscsc.org.

This year we are highlighting two new student academic conferences: Science & Nature Camp, for students in grades 1–8, and Real World 101, for students in grades 10–12. We also have a new competition for students in grades K–12—SCSC 1st Annual Chess Tournament. We are also striving to bring increased savings and benefits to you through our cooperative purchasing and insurance programs.

Area businesses partnered with SCSC this summer in EDUCATE 2005 Institute and opened their doors to local educators to develop a better understanding of career awareness in teaching and employment – see this Newsletter for a detailed article. SCSC continues to move forward with career and technical education programs and technology innovations to better serve our members in the 21st century—we just received a grant from MDE to the Carol Perkins Consortium for $213,704 to support the further develop these programs. Project SOCRATES continues to enhance electronic curriculum resources and offer Online Learning to staff and students in south central Minnesota.
