Life and Employability Skills

Every day more and more businesses and schools are seeing the need for students and employees to have strong life and employability skills. These are the skills people need to succeed in school, acquire and retain jobs, and handle the complexities of their jobs throughout their lives.

SCSC partner, Ten Sigma, offers a series of materials focused on teaching these essential skills. Their Life and Employability Series is designed to help students learn to get work done on time and to expectations, recognize and think through problems, make sensible suggestions and decisions, cope with a variety of situations and people, plan for the near and distant future, and be adept with modern technology.

The series includes a complete 65-skill curriculum offered in seven manuals: Computer and Internet Skills, Habits for Wellness, Workplace Skills and Attitudes, Responsibility, Basic Academic Skills, Interacting With Others and Planning For Success.

Each manual includes a complete 10-15 page unit for each skill, and each unit contains:

  • a lesson
  • a rubric
  • a variety of activities
  • a performance assessment
  • a certificate of accomplishment

The Life and Employability Series of manuals is available to SCSC Perkins Basic Grant, South Central and Cannon Valley Tech Prep consortia members at a discount. To place an order, please contact Glenn Morris, phone 507-389-5106.

A new Ten Sigma series,Targeting Transition, focuses on life and employability skills for students with individual education plans. More....

The activities in the L&E series of manuals are also available online for a fraction of the cost. A one-year subscription is available for single teachers or all teachers in a building. Visit www.tensigma.org/download to view samples and try a demo.
