SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

Server Hardware Requirements

Minimum: 1 Web/Analysis Server and 1 Database Server

• Pentium 4 2.8 ghz with Hyper Threading or equivalent Xeon Processor (Server class—Multiprocessor server recommended)
• 4 GB RAM
• 15000 rps High Speed SCSI Drives (Raid 3 or 5 configuration recommended)

Software Requirements

Web Server

• Windows 2003 and current service packs
• IIS 6.0 and current service packs
• In a web farm environment Analysis Services may be installed on the web servers

Data and Analysis Server

• Windows 2003 and current service packs
• Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Standard* and current service packs
• Microsoft Analysis Services* (this is part of the SQL Server) and current service packs
  Note: The service packs on SQL and Analysis Services must be the same version.
  
  *Enterprise Edition may be required depending upon data volumes.

Browser/Operating Systems

• PCs-IE 6.0 and above
• Netscape 7.1 and above
• Macintosh—Netscape 7.02 and 7.1
• Macintosh operating systems supported: Mac OS 9 and Max OS 10.1, 10.2

Staging Environments & Backups

In order to ensure a stable production environment, it is important to set up a staging area that duplicates your production environment. The staging area will be used to test upgrades,development and modification of database and cube structures, benchmark testing and general troubleshooting. It is also important to note that database and cube backups should be done on a frequent basis.

It is especially important to back up the Analytics database before upgrading or installing patch updates because it contains all the user information, profiles, and security.
