Established in 1996, SOCRATES—the South Central Regional Area Telecommunications System, provides voice, video, data, and Internet connectivity to schools and libraries in South Central Minnesota.

A program of the South Central Service Cooperative, participants include 28 school district members, four education cooperatives, and 31 public library members of the
Traverse des Sioux Library System. Members

SOCRATES private virtual network supports interconnectivity throughout the state in collaboration with eight regional telecommunications clusters and consortia, and through shared access to the state’s higher education network systems.

In addition to telecommunications access, SOCRATES provides member services and a full‐service regional e‐Education Program, including staff development for teachers and administrators, informational and instructional resources, a regional distance education program, and SOCRATES Online, a Minnesota state-certified supplemental online learning program.
