► Introduction to the Social Studies Standards
Join other social studies teachers, instructional leaders and/or administrators in exploring and planning implementation of the standards for the social studies classroom. Kate Stower, program coordinator for the Minnesota Center for Social Studies Education will discuss the standards review process and “unpack” the new social studies standards.

► History in the Hands of Teachers
Date: July 17-19
Location: St. Cloud State University
Description: The local Minnesota Council for History Education (MNCHE) is offering a summer institute of in-service and pre-service teachers to continue connections made between educators during the Teaching American History grant project. This three day institute is funded by the Library of Congress Teaching with Primary Sources program and will feature instruction on the use of primary sources and inquiry-based methods. Each participant will choose a topic and construct a final lesson plan, which will be posted on the MNCHE website in time for the 2012-13 school year. The institute is free and lodging, breakfast and lunch are provided each day. Teachers will receive a stipend once their lesson plan is complete.
